PROJECT 1: MEETING EDUCATIONAL NEEDS

In order to provide learning assistance to special needs students in their respective primary and secondary schools, we need to do the following for them:

  • Pay students’ school fees.
  • Buy school supplies (books, uniform, school shoes, basic clothes, and etcetera).
  • Personal hygiene supplies and money for food.
  • Hire trained and qualified teachers who understand special needs education and can give extra support to students outside the classroom hours (usually government schools will have one special needs teacher to cater to all students with disabilities; support from our teachers would be very beneficial to the students).
  • Buy special equipment and materials to assist students to ensure they are supported to learn effectively (aids such as recorders, Braille machine, and Braille books for students who are blind).

PROJECT 2: INDEPENDENCE, ORIENTATION AND MOBILITY COACHING

To ensure that students who have disabilities can live independently in their communities. We teach the students basic life skills such as dressing, clothing care, personal hygiene, health care, cooking, eating, nutrition, home safety, house management, financial management, problem-solving, and community access.

We want to see students with special needs interacting with other people socially. Organizing social events that the students enjoy is one way of encouraging a healthy social life.

To ensure that students are coming from supportive households and communities, we will visit the students’ families to understand the problems they are facing and lend a helping hand. We will organize talks with community members to explain how the community can get involved in including people living with disabilities in their activities.

To achieve this we need to:

  • Hire a mobility and independence coach to work with the students one on one.
  • Finances to cover summer work programs for students and the coach.
  • Transportation to visit communities.
  • Organize different social events such as music, arts, sports, dance, and etcetera.
